Building the union for positive change and member education update

Butting heads

It was inevitable. The bigger and more influential our union grows, the greater the push back will be. As some members know; the UWU received numerous member complaints following a speight of online attacks against our union just a few weeks ago. These attacks were unfounded, unreasonable and unprovoked.

Worse still, these attacks came from a small number of senior managers from a well known trade union. Officers of the UWU reached out to some of these individuals to request a meeting to discuss our concerns. Unfortunately, after initially agreeing to a meeting representatives of the group in question have broken off contact.

We will be discussing how best to respond to these attacks at the next all-member meeting on Tuesday 24 November at 1pm. Members will receive a join link by email.

Tribunal work

We recently issued proceedings against Exeter City Council (ECC). A number of members have recognised; ECC is not a union. True, however, our member concerned has a second job and UWU are supported wherever they work. We hope to settle this case soon with ECC.

Grassroots

The Executive recently committed to phoning every member to discuss growing our union. We want to hear about the issues in your workplace and what you think we should be campaigning on; this is your union.
